March madness

This time of year has one huge meaning to me, March Madness. They will announce the brackets on Sunday, I can not wait. It seems that my team, Oklahoma State will make the field this year. I hope the Cowboys will make a long run this year. I will get in a few bracket contests this year I do every year but I never do very well on the brackets, I tend to go with my heart and not with my brain. Maybe this year I will use my brain instead of my heart. Go Cowboys!

Joy

It is with great joy that I blog about the Nashville Predators and the fact that when the free agent period opened July 1st they resigned Steve Sullivan and Joel Ward, I would not of thought that they would resign one of them let alone both. We did lose some key players and I know that they can be replaced at a cheaper rate and that is what makes the team work. I know they have to make money and I hope that we have a competitive team this year, I know I will be cheering them on again this year.

Loss

Today the city of Nashville lost a legend, Steve McNair was shot to death in his condo downtown and as the news comes out it is not pleasant. He had a young girlfriend who it seems from first reports shot him and then took her own life. A real tragedy for both families and for the city of Nashville, Steve McNair besides being a football legend here was a big part of charities her and in his native Mississippi, and will be missed by many for a very long time to be sure. I am a huge Titans fan and his loss means a lot to me and I too will miss his being around here in town.

It sure looks like the Nashville Predators will lose Steve Sullivan, I hope for the sake of the team that they find a way to resign him when the free agency period starts July 1st. I am not going to hold my breath but I see it as a good move for the team and for Steve Sullivan too. I admire his hard work in coming back form being on injured reserve for almost two years with a very serious back injury. I for one hope the Predators get this deal done and soon as possible too.

Like most Americans I love the into to the Monday Night Football games by Hank Williams JR, they are filming the shots for this year here in Nashville at the Parthenon downtown. I am going to go downtown and be at the shooting and I might just be in the opening of the Monday Night Football show this year. They film a lot of stuff around this area and I thought that Nashville was just known for music but it is a big film location too. Gloria Estefan will be there for part of the time for the MNF shooting and I think she is hot so maybe I am going to see her most of all.

Summer

Now that summer is almost here it is time to get the motorcycle out and get it ready to ride. We do not ride as much as we used to but it is still a lot of fun to get the Harley out and ride around the lake and other fun places here in Nashville. I have had a Harley since I was in high school and have taken some nice long trips, hard to do that kind of stuff now with a family and a job but someday I plan to ride across country and I think that would be a lot of fun even at my advanced age.

Sad memory

On June 6th every year I think about the attack on Omaha beach and think of all the good men from both sides of the war that lost their lives on this very sad day. I think it is a good thing for our President to visit the site of the World War II battle and reflect on the lives lost to preserve our nation. God bless the men who fell in this battle and all the battles our nation has gone through in the last 2 centuries, I fear many more men and women will fall in battle before the Earth sees a peaceful time again.

Garden

Every year we have put out a very small garden and this year we have 10 tomato plants and 6 pepper plants not a huge garden but enough for me to mess with I put stakes against all the tomato plants and tied them up in a downpour yesterday. I guess we will get some vegetables this year, last year we were over run with tomatoes, we gave them away ate them on everything and they did not get very big but they tasted good and that is all that matters to me anyway.

Heaven

We just got home from a three day fishing trip and it was as the title says heaven. We took our 6 year old grandson and he had a blast. We caught a few fish and spent some quality time together as a family. I can not wait for the next trip we take I hope we can get a week off this time to spend even more time chasing fish and basking in the sunlight. Oh my what a three days it was. I want to go back soon is today soon enough?

Spring fever

With spring in full bloom it has been a tough week for me and my allergies. I love spring the best of all the seasons and I try to deal with the bad of the season allergies and bad strong storms are the two biggest problems with spring time. I love being able to sit outside with my dogs and enjoy the mild weather. This is the best time of year to sit outside on the yard swing and watch the birds fly by.

Grass

It has been so warm that the grass in our yard is starting to get green, and I know the cold weather is not over completely yet. I just hope my grass survives the cold snaps that I know are coming. We have a threat of freezing weather until mid April here in Nashville and I do not think we are past the danger of a hard freeze yet. I planted my tomato plants three times last year, lets hope I have better luck this year with my plants. Either my black thumb gets them or the weather I do not know which is worse for the plants.

March Madness

This is the month that March Madness begins and I will admit it is the only time I care anything at all about college basketball. The only thing I really care about it is that I make some money in the brackets I am in, and since I do not watch college basketball all year until the tourney I am not very lucky in my NCAA brackets that I enter at work. Although luck plays a huge part of this deal every year, last year the girl that won picked the teams on their uniform colors and be dammed if she did not win the big pot at the end of the year, go figure.

Snow

The are calling for snow tonight and that means they will be calling off school before the first snow flake falls. I have never in my life seen a school system like the one here in Nashville, they call off school if they think it is going to snow and in the past they have called off school because it was to cold. I think of all the snow and very cold days I walked to school in Oklahoma and it makes me mad that my school system did not call off school for cold and possible snow.

Big show

As I think over the many concerts we have been to over the years a couple stick out in my mind as being very memorable. The first and foremost in my mind was seeing Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard with Ray Price at the Opry House in Opry Mills. It was the very best concert I have ever seen as was very glad that we went to this show. Another show we saw at Starwood, which is gone now was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, it was a great show and another one that I am glad that we went to see. Now we have no good outdoor venue here in Nashville and that is a terrible thought here in Music City USA.

My baby sister turns 46 today, I bet she hates even the sound of 46. She has always been the youngest so getting older has never really been on her mind but now she is a grandma and I bet she can feel the age creeping in her bones just like I can. I still love her and wish her a happy birthday and many more to come. I wonder if the black roses that I sent will be well received?
